What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in the notion that two things can be true. My approach with patients is both: - Empowering & Guiding - Encouraging & Challenging - Direct & Warm - Humorous & Genuine - Creative & Research-backed - Professional & Deeply Empathic I offer a range of in person and virtual pediatric psychology services in Illinois: - Free (pre-service) brief consultation - Assessment, Testing - Treatment, Therapy - Coaching My areas of expertise include: - Children, adolescents, young adults, parents, families - Medical conditions, chronic illness, anxiety, adjustment, stress, life transition, body image, self-esteem, disordered eating attitudes and behaviors, school problems - Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) If you have questions about something on (or not on) here, please ask!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

What's it like working with me? - Having a warm hand on the shoulder and getting a gentle nudge forward, while hearing, "You can do this" - Being provided every skill and tool you need to feel empowered in order to feel confident and capable to meet your goals. - Having a coach on the sideline, ready to provide guidance and encouragement, if and when needed. What will we do in our first session? - Session 1 with me is usually about setting goals and planning for treatment. It's like mapping out a trip. First, we briefly go over necessary logistics - like safety and other policies. Next, I explain our roles: you're the driver, I'm the navigator/GPS. I make suggestions for how to get to where we're going, and you ultimately decide where we are going and the route we will take to get there. - Other than that, I'll follow up on any questions that didn't get answered or need more information provided on your intake forms. - After session 1, we start the active work. And yes, I said work. This is more than talk therapy. We do activities, exercises, and lots of in session work and skill-building to reach those goals we mapped out in Session 1. I also said we! I'm in this with you - the whole way. Frequent progress check-ins help us determine whether the path we're on is working or if we need to re-route. Once we reach the point where you say, "Yes, this is where I wanted to be when I started!" is when therapy either ends (through a gradual and mutually agreed upon process) or we map out a new destination with new plans based on new therapeutic goals. If this sounds like what you are looking for to move forward to well-being or get back to just being you, reach out! I'd love to join you on your journey.
