“Marissa is a consummate professional. She became my therapist at the lowest point in my life, and has helped me to navigate through my trauma. She truly listens, and remembers everything. I know that every week when I leave my session with her, I will walk away refocused and ready to face the week ahead. ”

“Marisa has been my therapist for about two years now. She has helped me through so many hardships that I had in regard to domestic violence, depression and anxiety. She took this time to really understand me and gave me professional feedback and advice. I am so lucky to have finally found a therapist that has been able to help me. I went through a few until I found this one. So thankful! ”

Getting to know Marissa O'Connor

Seeking help is a difficult first step, and I look forward to collaboratively identifying ways to support you on your journey. My focus is on providing support while navigating difficult life transitions, trauma recovery, stress, and relationship challenges. Our work together can help you make sense of your experiences, move you toward goals that feel authentic and empowering, take back control of your life, hold better boundaries, and work to improve your communication and attachment patterns to help you experience healthier relationship and family dynamics. I have specialized experience working with individuals healing from trauma, in high conflict divorce, those with parenting concerns and challenges, and first generation college students. I have experience primarily supporting individuals through diagnoses of anxiety, panic disorder (panic attacks), depression, PTSD, ADHD, and those in recovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is eclectic, person-centered, trauma-informed, and relational. I ground my work in psychodynamic and attachment-based theory, while also integrating solution-focused techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and harm reduction strategies when appropriate. I bring a blended educational background in Psychology and Social Work, allowing me to consider how a person’s experiences, environment, and stressors shape their mental health. My experience has exposed me to a wide range of clinical concerns and client stories, and I bring that depth into each session. I look forward to growing and adapting together!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start by completing a biopsychosocial intake assessment and identifying 2 main goals or problem areas of focus for treatment. From there, I will identify what approaches I may utilize from my experience to best support your goals as we continue to build rapport, alliance, and work together.
