Marissa Potter, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
My name is Marissa Potter, and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LMHC) based in New York, working with individuals via telehealth. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Niagara University. I work with adults and specialize in a wide range of focus areas, including anxiety, stress, depression, and communication styles. Some therapeutic approaches I use to address these areas are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy, helping my clients navigate challenging times and find growth in desired areas. My approach I use a range of evidence-based practices tailored to each individual's needs. These include cognitive-based therapy, solution-focused therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. My main approach is client-centered. I believe in working collaboratively with my clients to identify treatment priorities and create individualized therapeutic goals. My focus I have experience working with individuals struggling with substance use, anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship problems, and everyday stressors. I also have experience with couples and family counseling, addressing issues from past and current family trauma to communication concerns and setting healthy boundaries. My communication style My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where we can address personalized goals that help each individual achieve the change they are seeking. I use empathy and respect all boundaries a client may set. It can be difficult to feel comfortable when first starting counseling, so we work as a team and at the individual's pace to address their goals. My journey to therapy Becoming a therapist has always been a passion of mine, as it allows me to help others. I have naturally been drawn to support people during difficult times and be the support they might need. I enjoy seeing others become the best versions of themselves and achieve the goals they have set.
