Hi there! My name is Marissa Raskin, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York with over 12 years of experience working as a counselor and therapist. I received my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University at Albany and hold a dual Master's degree from the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling. My therapy style is warm, empathetic, supportive, and inclusive. I believe in treating anyone and everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. I tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My focus I have worked with clients facing a wide range of concerns, including substance use, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career and work challenges, and parenting problems. Some of my clients over the years have also experienced trauma or abuse and/or been involved with the criminal justice system. My communication style By engaging in a client-centered approach, the individual is empowered and in charge of their journey, with support, guidance, and understanding to move forward in a positive direction. My journey to therapy I have always had an inclination to understand people in order to help them where they are and where they want to go-to help the underdogs, those who may have faced obstacles and challenges but still strive to do and feel better. My goals for you We will discuss general, long-term goals and break them down into short-term, attainable steps. We'll explore what areas are causing distress, identify ways to ease symptoms, and work on potential underlying concerns. My first session with you We'll review why you are seeking treatment, discuss your expectations or hopes for therapy, and begin goal setting.
