Marjorie Smith, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
The most important aspect of therapy is safety. I create a safe, comfortable, nonjudgmental environment in which you can begin to share the obstacles and fears that have held you back. Patterns of behavior and ingrained beliefs can create a feeling of being stuck. We will gently explore your patterns and beliefs to give you the opportunity to decide which to keep and which to let go. This in turn will build self-confidence and allow you to "unstuck" yourself. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Roberts Wesleyan University, which informs my compassionate and client-centered approach to therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice is eclectic and tailored to each client. My approach is relational; I also use some cognitive interventions or DBT skills as appropriate. The core of our work is always our therapeutic relationship. Much healing can come from this.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once you schedule an appointment with me, I will reach out to you via phone for a brief 10 minute free consult to ensure I am the right fit for your therapy goals. Our initial appointment will include time to discuss what has brought you to therapy, what symptoms or distress you have been experiencing, and some history of your life journey thus far. As we move into the following sessions, we will identify your goals for our work together, build a treatment plan, and discuss what you hope to see as progress in your work.
