Getting to know Mark Chaney
My name is Mark Chaney. I provide counseling and counseling-related services for children, adolescents, adults, and families together. I have 15+ years of accumulative training and experience in the fields of mental health, trauma, domestic violence, foster care, and adoption. Some clients I see are experiencing short-term stressors, while others are experiencing longer-term mental health disturbances. For individual therapy, I generally treat adults and adolescents ages 12 and older. For children younger than 12, or for adolescents otherwise not appropriate for telehealth, it may be recommended to address concerns in the form of family therapy. I use an integrated model that builds upon a person’s existing beliefs, strategies, and virtues, and I work with individuals and families experiencing a wide array of presenting concerns.
I earned my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Texas Wesleyan University. I am a lifelong student of philosophy. I enjoy reading, writing, painting, drawing, sculpture, and playing music. I find peace in the outdoors and camping, inspiration in community collaboration, and I am passionate about psychotherapy. It has been my great privilege to walk with people as they unlock the resources they need to stabilize and grow. I believe that community stigma around mental health is reduced as individuals call on the courage to seek help.
"The only normal people are people you don’t know very well." – Alfred Adler
What should a new client know about working with you?
Clients should expect a first session to include discussions of privacy, expectations of treatment, and warm information gathering, as an assessment of symptoms and needs. We will then go over recommendations as a plan of care and will seek to establish initial agreed-upon therapy goals based on the unique factors leading to treatment. Goal setting is a collaborative and ongoing process. There will be discussions of the aims of successful therapy completion throughout an episode of treatment, at intake, during regular intervals across a course of treatment, and at discharge.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

He’s very eye opening and doesn’t tell me the answers out right, but gives me ways to find the answer, so I realize it myself

I cannot recommend Mark Chaney enough for the incredible support and guidance they provided during my divorce. He helped me navigate through the difficult emotions and challenges of the process while also encouraging me to focus on self-improvement for myself and my daughter. I am forever grateful for his expertise and compassion. Thank you for helping me become the best version of myself during such a tough time.

Even without being in the military himself, he will listen to my ptsd issues until we agree he understands and then we are able to work through the issues successfully

After several appointments I’m feeling more than confident about continuing with Mark Chaney, which is really saying something after a history of poor experience with various medical professionals throughout my health journey for the past 14 years, especially in the mental health industry. Mark takes the time to establish understanding of the human condition and if you’re interested even how we got to our modern sensibilities around it compared to where humanity started.
As someone who strives to understand myself and how others may perceive me, being able to have full coverage of actions and reactions with a kind hand to consider if I’m ready and willing to receive a pulse on my ego, having Mark on my corner has been incredibly helpful. Even on the level that I can better communicate with others in my life, both in the personal and medical realm, Mark’s assistance has been extremely beneficial to my journey of healing.

Why would you only let me mark two items. Mark is SO MANY of the options above. Made seeking therapy effortlessly. I feel heard. I think about what he said when I’m going through something. I love saying I enjoy my therapist. I look forward to it. He also makes me think nothing is wrong with me haha. I know I have issues but he never makes me feel like I’m the problem.

Mark is an incredible counselor who has helped me navigate many difficult challenges in my life. I love how he doesn't treat me as a series of diagnoses but as a complete person who is trying to live a productive life with those diagnoses taking into account my family/work relationships, spirituality, and theories and tools from other psychologists and philosophers.
