Psychotherapist
NM
I’m Mark, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected—not judged or talked over. My aim is to hold a warm, steady space where real connection and lasting change feel possible. My approach draws from professional training and personal lived experience. Having navigated life with Cerebral Palsy, I understand resilience, adaptation, and how systems of difference and inequity shape our paths. My sociology background (minor in Africana Studies) deepens my insight into systemic oppression, racism, and marginalization, especially in Black communities and other marginalized groups. I practice trauma-informed care, centering safety, empowerment, collaboration, choice, and trustworthiness. I welcome adults and couples from all backgrounds with cultural humility, creating space for conversations about identity, race, culture, historical trauma, or lived experiences when they matter to you. I work with motivated professionals, parents, and people in transition ready to move forward—often addressing anxiety, burnout, depression, relationship challenges (communication, intimacy, conflict), or effects of past trauma and systemic pressures. We’ll collaborate to build tools for resilience, self-compassion, stronger connections, and greater calm and confidence. I integrate CBT for reframing thoughts and coping skills, mindfulness/somatic techniques for grounding, and strengths-based approaches to highlight your inherent resilience—all tailored to your goals, pace, and needs. Whether reducing symptoms, healing patterns, strengthening your partnership, or finding clarity in life’s bigger forces, I’m here to support you. If this resonates and you’re ready to feel more grounded and empowered, I’d be honored to walk with you. Reach out—let’s nurture the hope and growth you deserve.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I create a warm, non-judgmental, collaborative space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected—no judgment, no talking over you. My approach is trauma-informed at its foundation, always centering your safety, empowerment, choice, collaboration, and trustworthiness. I blend evidence-based tools like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful thoughts and build coping skills; mindfulness and somatic techniques for grounding, regulation, and body awareness; and strengths-based perspectives to honor your inherent resilience and wisdom. Drawing from my lived experience with Cerebral Palsy and my sociology background (minor in Africana Studies), I bring embodied insight into resilience, adaptation, systemic inequities, racism, and marginalization—especially for Black communities and other marginalized groups. I practice cultural humility and welcome conversations about identity, race, culture, historical trauma, or lived experiences whenever they’re relevant to you. Sessions are fully tailored to your goals, pace, and needs—whether you’re easing anxiety, burnout, depression, healing past trauma, improving relationship dynamics (communication, intimacy, conflict), or navigating bigger life pressures. We’ll work together to cultivate self-compassion, stronger connections, practical resilience tools, and a deeper sense of calm and confidence. I typically partner with motivated adults and couples—often professionals, parents, or people in transition—who are ready to move forward. You are the expert on your life; I’m here as a steady, supportive guide. If this resonates, I’d be honored to walk with you toward the growth and empowerment you deserve.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is collaborative, trauma-informed, and fully client-centered. First Session (Intake – 50-60 min): We build trust and connection. I’ll ask about what brings you in, main concerns, background (at your comfort level), and therapy goals. This is your space to ask about my approach or anything else. We discuss session frequency (often weekly at first), goals, and any immediate safety/stabilization needs. By the end, we’ll sense if we’re a good fit. Ongoing Sessions (Usually 45-50 min): Sessions feel warm, conversational, unhurried. We start with a check-in: How have you been? What’s carrying over? Any wins, stressors, or updates? Then we follow what feels most important—no rigid agenda. Depending on your needs/goals, we might: Use CBT to gently reframe unhelpful thoughts and build coping tools Incorporate mindfulness, breathwork, or somatic practices to ground and regulate Explore past experiences, trauma, or relational patterns at your pace, always prioritizing safety and empowerment Work on communication, intimacy, conflict, or boundaries (especially for couples) Address burnout, anxiety, depression, or systemic pressures with strengths-based focus Your identity, culture, race, lived experiences, and values are welcome whenever relevant—I bring cultural humility and curiosity. Pace & Between Sessions: You control depth and speed. Some want structured skills; others prefer open processing. We regularly check what’s working and adjust. I may suggest optional “experiments” (e.g., a grounding practice or reflection prompt)—nothing required. Progress & Ending: Therapy evolves with you. When ready, we plan thoughtful closure: celebrate growth, create a maintenance plan, and end empowering. My goal: Each session leaves you more seen, grounded, and equipped to move forward with calm and confidence.
