EMDR Trained Therapist pronouns: he/him Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my background. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been in practice for eight years, with private outpatient practice since 2019. I completed my Bachelor of Social Work (BSSW) and Master's in Social Work (MSW) at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. After finishing graduate school, I worked in residential drug and alcohol treatment, focusing on individuals with substance use challenges as well as mental health disorders. From there, I transitioned into medical social work, beginning with hospice and later moving into the hospital setting, where I also supervised all social work staff. Clinical social work is my third career. My first career was in information technology, and while the technology was engaging, I developed a passion for helping employees build their careers and accomplish their goals. After many years, I chose to move into holistic health as a massage therapist. During that time, my specialty was light-touch and energy work with clients who have a traumatic past. For the last seven years of that period, I also taught massage at a local college. While my past careers may seem quite different, they all share a common thread: a desire to support others in accomplishing their goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The word trauma can bring up many different feelings, and might even leave you wonder if you are impacted by trauma. Many note not wanting to call it trauma because "it just wasn't that bad." Regardless of the size of the trauma, it can have a significant impact on your life and how you cope. My role is to support you in identifying how trauma has affected you and a path through it without judgement. My approach to treatment is always to "meet you where you are." That means that we will always take the time to notice what is most important at the time, without judgment, as well as incorporating your goals. To work with the trauma, I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in conjunction with other methods that are well established and tested.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

To get started, I recommend a short initial consultation to discuss what's bringing you to therapy and be sure we are a good fit. The initial consultation has no commitment and is no charge. Therapy works best when both client and therapist feel comfortable with one another. Each person is different and if we're not a good fit, that's okay.
