Getting to know Mark Oakley

Looking back on my life story, I recognize that mental illness has been a central theme in several chapters of my journey Personally experiencing mental illness caused struggle and emotional suffering but also drove me to seek help Reaching out led to comfort and healing and eventually opened doors that led me to become a therapist Now, I reach out to those who are where I once was This journey has provided me opportunities to work in many settings over the years, including medical and mental health hospitals, intensive outpatient programs, residential addiction treatment centers, and private practice My background has allowed me to develop skills in providing psychological first aid, assessments, group therapy, family work, and individual sessions I earned my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, which laid the foundation for my clinical work Throughout my career, I’ve worked in diverse settings such as medical trauma centers, residential substance abuse centers, mental health hospitals, and intensive outpatient offices I have provided psychological first aid, individual therapy, and group therapy to people from all walks of life As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide talk therapy guided by mindfulness and acceptance-based cognitive therapies, primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) For trauma or abuse, I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which can alleviate suffering associated with PTSD One of my primary roles as a therapist is to assist you in finding effective ways to travel in the life directions you find most meaningful What I believe in most is providing an attentive, compassionate space where clients can choose what they want from their sessions I’m here to help, listen, and identify options that can make a difference So, if you are struggling, suffering, or unsure how to make desired changes, I’d be happy to walk through those challenges with you.
