Getting to know Marshall Kirkpatrick

Hi there, I'm Marshall! My name is Marshall Kirkpatrick, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with 36 years of experience in social services and mental health. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Chapman University and a Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University. My approach I primarily use a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy, but I also incorporate Trauma Informed Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused CBT, and elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. My focus I have decades of experience working with trauma, especially sexual trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Trauma often leads to relationship difficulties, challenges in feeling close to others, strong emotional reactions that may seem disproportionate, sexual problems, sexual preoccupation or hypersexuality, pornography addictions, and arousal issues. Additionally, I have considerable experience addressing anxiety, depression, stress, and other life challenges. My communication style I tend to be warm and laid back during sessions, often using humor to create a comfortable atmosphere. At the same time, I can be direct when addressing specific issues and providing feedback. This balance helps avoid misunderstandings and clarifies important topics. My journey to mental healthcare My path to becoming a therapist was a long journey through social services and mental health. This broad experience gives me a unique perspective on mental health, trauma, and its effects. I truly enjoy working with people to help them understand their life experiences, how those experiences have shaped them, and how they can regain control over their lives. This is what makes my work rewarding and fun. My goals for you I take a client-focused approach, offering the information and support needed for clients to determine their own goals and what they want to achieve in therapy.
