Do you find that you’re stuck in the same old unhelpful patterns? Does everyday feel like another day of the same old problems and you feel trapped in responding in the same ways? Your mood is suffering, you’re constantly worried and perhaps you’re even turning to choices you wish you weren’t. Or perhaps the patterns are more centered around your partnership. Do you find yourself bracing for the next argument, knowing it’s inevitably just around the corner? Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in harmful cycles intrapersonally and interpersonally that keep steering us away from the life we so want. We feel depressed or anxious so we have a drink or we cope in whatever way we can, even if we know it might be harming us. Perhaps our most problematic pattern is with the one we love, and we just can’t seem to get the type of communication and connection we desire. Sound at all familiar? If so, let’s connect. I provide a compassionate, safe, and understanding environment to help you unhook from unhelpful patterns. My experience includes working with adolescents, adults and couples as a licensed professional counselor helping people overcome their unique obstacles and start living their best lives. I have specialty working with a myriad of life experiences including but not limited to: addiction and substance use, depression and low mood, anxiety, gender dysphoria, relationship issues, interpersonal discord, and chronic health issues. I look forward to the honor of working together and guiding you toward the life you deserve! I obtained my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health from National Louis University in 2018. Prior to that I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services through the same university. I have worked at outpatient settings serving couples and individuals as well as worked at a substance use program at the College of DuPage. I am trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use a warm and empathetic approach utilizing different interventions and methods from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gottman Couples Method and Harm Reduction Models. I will tailor my approach to your needs, utilizing a trauma-informed lens to recognize patterns that may be influenced by prior events and dynamics in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

What to expect? During our first session we will get to know each other a bit and explore what you're wanting out of therapy. You can expect that you can share as much or as little as you'd like, based on your comfort and readiness. We will likely talk some about your background, your presenting concerns, your strengths and your connections. During our sessions after that, usually weekly, we will start to work on the goals we determine together for therapy. Through processing emotions, thought patterns and belief systems, learning about and practicing coping strategies, recognizing behaviors, learning new communication strategies, connecting more dots, and reflecting and planning ahead, we will facilitate insight, growth and transformation. If we are doing couples work together, we will all meet together for the first session, and then usually within the next few sessions I will have a one-on-one with each partner to ensure I am getting individual perspectives as well as possible individual contributing factors to the relationship patterns taking place. We will work to recognize what patterns are not helping the relationship, and what habits needs fostering to improve connection, trust, intimacy and fun with one another. If a relationship is already strong in their foundation but just looking to enhance, we will work to recognize what can continue to support the relationship in the direction both partners want it to go!
