“I’ve been to several providers over the span of nearly 20 years. None of which had the level of professionalism or personal interaction as I experienced with my sessions with her. I’ve never felt connected nor did I feel like I was listened to until her. She has helped me through the darkest times of my life and I wouldn’t be as happy or successful as I am if it wasn’t for her. ”

Getting to know Martha Villafrade-blume

The foundation of my approach and my work comes from my identity as a first-generation immigrant as well as a retired active duty service member. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Fayetteville State University, which has equipped me with the skills to support individuals through their unique journeys. Regardless of our experiences, all of us have something in common: we all have a story, and that story is full of change, the unknown, and lessons to be learned. I'd like to be able to help along the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Colombian immigrant, and a retired Army Social Worker. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Psychology from New York University, and my Master of Social Work degree through the Army-Fayetteville State University MSW Program. I have over 13 years experience working in this field, mainly focusing in trauma work and traumatic event management. I believe that a single approach doesn’t fit everyone. Therapy is a tough journey to begin, and an even tougher one to continue. Each person is at a different point of that journey, and my job is to help them along when needed. Whether we only meet for a consultation, or you decide you'd like to work together, my hope is that you take something valuable from our interactions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I adjust treatment modalities and direction based on feedback. This is a collaborative process, and treatment plans are constantly evaluated and adjusted to meet your needs as a partner in the process. I prefer open and honest communication. I am direct, transparent, and open-minded. I strive to provide a non-judgmental, safe environment. I am experienced in some evidence based treatment modalities such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and a neuroscience informed therapist. I am a Certified Mindfulness-Informed Professional (CMIP)..
