Getting to know Martin McQuilkin

Hello, I'm Dr. Martin McQuilkin, and I'm here to support you on your journey to better mental health. As an African American male of Caribbean descent, I've had the unique experience of living in New York for 25 years before making the Metropolitan Atlanta area my home for the last 30 years. This diverse background has deeply enriched my understanding of various cultures and communities, which I bring into my therapeutic practice every day. I hold a doctorate in Health Psychology and a master's in Clinical Psychology, and I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. My professional journey has taken me from working at Northside Hospital in Atlanta to serving a wide array of clients through online platforms like Telleme.org, LinkedIn, and Facebook. I work with adolescents, teenagers, young adults, adults, seniors, and the LGBTQIA+ community, providing a safe and supportive space for everyone. In my practice, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, and Psychoanalytic approaches, always with a strong focus on the concept of 'Self.' I believe that developing a deep awareness of oneself is crucial in the therapy process. My specializations include stress relief, depression, anxiety, family and partner conflicts, marriage counseling, mood and personality disorders, grief and loss, and communication skills. Working with me means engaging in a collaborative and empathetic process where your unique experiences and needs are at the forefront. Whether we're addressing addiction, anger management, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, or navigating life transitions, my goal is to help you find clarity and resilience. I also extend my services to couples and families, aiding them in resolving conflicts and fostering healthier relationships. Outside of my professional life, I cherish the connections I build with my clients and the opportunity to witness their growth and healing. If you're ready to take the next step towards a more balanced and fulfilling life, I'm here to guide and support you. Let's embark on this journey together.

Martin was fantastic. I'm so glad that I chose him, very knowledgeable and experienced. I'm looking forward to our next session.
The therapist was nice and very friendly however he rushed our session and didn’t allow us to have our full hour. We stopped around 35-40 minutes leaving us 20-25 minutes in our session. When he asked if I had any questions or comments I said yes and explained what was on my mind he dismissed me and told me we can follow up on our next session. I was confused on why we had to wait till our next session when we still had 20 minutes left in our current session. I am currently searching for another therapist who will value time and actually care about my issues.
