“MaryBeth is an incredible therapist with a direct, no-nonsense approach that really cuts through the noise. She has a unique ability to ask the right questions—the kind that stay with you and make you truly reflect on your patterns, choices, and behaviors. Her insight pushes you to dig deeper and understand the "why" behind what you do, which is both powerful and transformative. What I appreciate most is how she helps you move from insight to action. She doesn’t just help you unpack uncertainty—she guides you through it, helping you build clarity and confidence along the way. If you're looking for someone who will challenge you, support you, and help you grow in a meaningful way, MaryBeth is the real deal.”

Getting to know Mary Beth McCabe

The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is #37PC00650000. My name is Mary Beth and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in NJ and DE with over 11 years of experience providing therapy services. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings including: outpatient, adult partial care, residential for adolescents, therapeutic foster care, and intensive in-home counseling for children and families. I specialize in clients affected by depression, anxiety, bipolar, Autism, grief and loss, domestic violence, trauma and relationship challenges from individual, group and family work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is client centered: you are the expert on your life and you determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide you in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish your goals at your pace. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we can explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to discover thought patterns leading to behaviors and beliefs that cause difficulties. Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I will support you in developing skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving clients towards a life increasing the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am the most invasive person you will ever meet :) I will ask you about every aspect of your life and history. I will ask about your parents, siblings, extended family, relationships, diet, exercise, coping skills, trauma, beliefs, how you cope, medications, alcohol/drugs, what works and what does not. I will listen and ask many questions until I have a full grasp of who you are and what you want to accomplish. I will ask you to practice things discussed in session, follow up each session, and move at your pace. My clients do make progress and my favorite thing is to graduate a client who no longer needs my services.

Mary Beth is the best therapist I’ve worked with. I’ve been able to make huge strides in my healing and recovering that I would have not been able to do without her.
I’m impressed by how easy it is to use the app. Setting up and having the appointments have worked without any problems. Most important is the perfect match my therapist is for me. She is so good at understanding my struggles and at giving good advice and tools to move through and out of what I’m struggling with. She also calls me out on when I’m fooling myself.
She was kind yet assertive in her discussion with me. I think I need this type of change from my previous therapist (whom I had to stop seeing because of a change in insurance). I will be seeing her again.

The doctor listened to what I had to say and made clear suggestions for self-help. We have another appointment next week which I look forward to.

Mary Beth was amazing. Made me feel so comfortable and we went through SO much in just my first session. She offered lots of tips and guidance. I see a really great journey with her. I like that she is super direct and could provide advice for every concern I have. She really tried to understand my current relationships and life and also parts of my past. I am really optimistic for our continued sessions.

I have been to many therapists in the past and I have never had a more positive experience. She tells it like it is, offers real help and solutions, and is exactly what I look for in a therapist. My anxiety is totally under control since starting therapy with her.
Mary is a great listener and really dives in deep. She’s working with me to find what I truly need help with to cope with stressors I’m facing in life.
I have never seen a therapist, and have been lost in my head for over 2 months. After only one session with Mary, I feel that she was able to reach into my brain and bring me out again. She didn’t sugar coat anything, and gave me immediate solid direction based on what she heard. I honestly can’t wait until my follow up with her!
