Mary Bradley, LCPC

Psychotherapist
6825 167th Street, Tinley Park, IL
I'm a therapist and I realllly like my job. I love getting to watch others grow and find themselves. I believe we all just want to be seen and heard, and maybe feel like things aren't going to fall apart at any second. I specialize in working with individuals who tend to overthink, have been labeled as "too self-aware", intellectualizers, or find themselves knowing their problem, but struggling to feel relief from it. I also work with childhood trauma, PTSD, and individuals within the LGBTQ+ community.

Getting to know Mary Bradley

I'm a therapist and I realllly like my job. I love getting to watch others grow and find themselves. I believe we all just want to be seen and heard, and maybe feel like things aren't going to fall apart at any second. I specialize in working with individuals who tend to overthink, have been labeled as "too self-aware", intellectualizers, or find themselves knowing their problem, but struggling to feel relief from it. What should a new client know about working with you?

I tend to be more direct than a lot of therapists. This means I'll ask questions or challenge your thinking or behaviors (when therapeutically appropriate). However, sometimes you might need to cry for 45 minutes or spend the session venting about the week. In that case, I'm happy to sit in silence, keep things lighter, or whatever is needed. I also find education to be helpful at times, and will use it to fill in some of the gaps to explain why we are the way we are. I value feedback, so if we do something you like or dislike, I find it helpful to know. I check in with clients every so often to make sure we're on the same page and they feel they're getting what they want out of our time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I'm a pretty laid-back person in general, so I try to be that way in session. We're strangers at the beginning, so I do my best to build up our relationship and increase your level of comfortability. I use humor and try to act like a real person. I also think it's important that you leave the first session feeling like you have something to take with you. That might be an action plan, a feeling of hope, a new skill to try, or something to think on between sessions.
