Mary Dom, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Mary! Hi! I'm Mary Dom and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in San Antonio, Texas. I counsel adolescents, adults, and couples using Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and Gottman method therapies. I work state-wide by teletherapy and enjoy working with a variety of mood disorders (including depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety, stress, trauma, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I am non-judgmental and easy to talk to in therapy. My approach My approach depends on the person I am helping, although it is always compassionate and person-centered. I frequently use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people change their thinking and behaviors. For trauma, I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I use the Gottman Method for marriage counseling. My focus I enjoy working with clients who are ages 13 and up and especially enjoy working with people who are dealing with life transitions. In addition, I find that EMDR is very effective for a variety of issues, especially trauma from the client's past. I have a great deal of experience treating depression and bipolar disorder and enjoy helping people navigate their way to managing these issues. My communication style I create a compassionate and non-judgmental space in therapy, where you can be yourself and work on issues important to you. I can give you a different perspective on behavioral health issues as well as help you positively adapt to difficult situations. My journey to mental healthcare I've always been a helper. I grew up with family members with mental illnesses and became interested in being a counselor during my first psychology class in high school. I was recruited into the Air Force because of my education in psychology. At one point after a personal trauma, I went to counseling and this just confirmed that I wanted to become a psychotherapist and help others.
