Mary Goggins, LCSW

Psychotherapist
MI
I'm Mary! As your therapist, my goal is to support you in becoming a better version of yourself. I believe that life's experiences teach us things about the world that may no longer be the most helpful or true today-even if they were true at the time in our past. When we don't adapt and remain flexible, we can get caught in a web of mistaken beliefs, thinking errors, and unresolved life problems. This makes it difficult to find our way and manage life's challenges in the here-and-now. I love being present when my clients discover new ways and authentically experience change. I have worked with clients from many walks of life and with varied needs. My areas of expertise include Addiction/Substance Abuse, Family of Origin issues, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, and Mood disorders. I use a Cognitive Behavioral and eclectic approach to help clients bring out the best in themselves. I integrate evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. I like to use humor, open-ended questions, and a direct approach because I believe counseling should get to the point-and we should have fun doing it. My client-centered philosophy means I tailor interventions to meet the specific needs and circumstances of each individual. I want clients to have a safe space where they feel comfortable sharing their experiences as we work collaboratively toward positive outcomes. I am committed to building genuine relationships because I believe the power of connection is an essential element in the therapeutic process. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I graduated from UW-Milwaukee with my Masters in Social Work in 2007 and I have been working as a clinician for the last 18 years. I am licensed to practice in WI, AZ, CO, MI, FL and and NJ. In addition to my LCSW, I’m independently licensed in the field of substance abuse. I have my LISAC in the state of AZ and CSAC in the state of WI. I’m also credentialed as an ICS independent clinical supervisor in the state of WI. Selecting a therapist on a platform can be difficult because it's not easy to know exactly what you are getting into. "Will this lady really know what she's talking about? Will she actually be able to help me?" These questions are the norm for clients and uncertainty comes with the territory of what you are searching for. It's my hope that we will make a great team and you will become that better version of yourself you're searching for
