I'm Mary Grace, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I am here to offer support so that you can reconnect to yourself and who you want to be. Sometimes life happens in a way that lends you to grief, feeling lost, and disconnected from the core of who you are. Grief and loss come in many shapes and sizes, loss of relationships, loss of self, life transitions, general changes, loss of dreams, body changes, aging, health struggles, new life, and death. Maybe there are specific events impacting you and maybe there aren't. Either way, you just feel off and out of alignment with the version of yourself you want to be. How about we give some space to explore who you are, who you aren't, how you got here, what impacts and influences you, and how to embody the whole you? I actively work to decolonize my practice, acknowledging the different cultural views of mental health and benefits of many healing modalities. I strive to be an ally for the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. I want to honor the land I work on, occupied by Asheville, NC, as land originally cared for by the Eastern Band of Cherokee.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to counseling is holistic and I will tailor it to meet your needs integrating mind, body, and spirit. I have an existential systemic approach to counseling, focusing on self-awareness, meaning making, identity development, and relationships, all within the ever-changing human experience. I utilize many therapy modalities to help you work towards your goals. I incorporate your whole being into the work we do, taking a tender developmental, mind-body, and when needed, direct approach. I am person-centered and trauma-informed, prioritizing building a safe, nurturing relationship with a dash of play and humor to help foster your growth. My goals are your goals. Supporting you in feeling more like yourself is my top priority. Whatever barriers you face in connecting with yourself and the life you dream of, we can face together. I specialize in working with grief, loss, life transitions, values work, those feeling lost or stuck, anyone who considers themselves in an existential or life crisis, and those who just want to understand themselves more to help create the life they want. Counseling is a collaborative process and I am here to support any goals you may have. I look forward to learning and growing with you. I also offer neurofeedback which is a form of learning to retrain your brain waves and nervous system. It can be helpful for mood, anxiety, trauma reprocessing, attention, emotion regulation, sleep, and headaches.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with intake, where we go over what brings you in currently, as well as, your holistic history. We will discuss symptoms, relationships, care for self, health history, work, identity, spirituality, family, significant losses or traumas, and anything else you want to share that might be important to me understanding who you are. We will discuss what you are looking for and how to collaboratively get you there. I consider intake to be the first 2-3 sessions because it takes a little while for me to get the full picture of your life. I tend to work with clients more long term, focusing on working through root issues that may be impacting multiple areas of life. Ultimately, my goal is that clients leave our work together feeling more like themselves, free to be their authentic selves, able to be flexible and compassionate with what life throws at them. My hope is that you come home to yourself in our work together.
