Psychotherapist
NE
Hello, I'm Mary Jane. I chose to become a therapist because I find people endlessly interesting and enjoy helping them figure out what makes them tick. Everyone deserves improved mental health, and I am dedicated to helping adults meet their goals in functioning better emotionally, behaviorally, and psychologically. Therapy is a profession that demands creativity, curiosity, and passion, and I find it rewarding, challenging, and never boring. I am passionate about teaching mindfulness and new research-based strategies that put a fresh twist on releasing difficult emotions, with a focus on the whole person. In 1984, I graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. As a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner, I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of ages and diverse populations. My first 20+ years were spent at a children's mental health clinic where we treated all family members individually, as families, and in group therapy. We addressed issues such as child maltreatment, ADHD, sexual abuse, and all types of trauma. For the last 10+ years, I worked at a residential treatment center for substance use, mental health, and homelessness, where we focused on addressing underlying mental health concerns that often lead to substance use disorders. Life is hard; we are all flawed individuals. Do you find yourself wondering how you can improve the quality of your daily life? Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, feeling stressed, and overwhelmed? There are many ways I can help lessen these struggles. There is a reason for hope; everyone can change and find ways to live a more rewarding life. The field of mental health is constantly evolving with new insights, techniques, and strategies, and I am here to guide you through these changes. When you work with me, you can expect a compassionate and non-judgmental space where we can explore your thoughts and feelings together. My approach is holistic, considering all aspects of your life to help you achieve balance and well-being. I specialize in family relationships, grief and bereavement, life transitions, intimate and romantic relationships, stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and anger management. Whether through in-person sessions or SonderMind Video Telehealth, I am committed to providing the support you need. If you're ready to take the first step towards a more fulfilling life, I invite you to reach out. Let's work together to find the path that best suits your needs and goals.
