Mary Joya

Psychotherapist
888 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Ste 220, Hauppauge, NY
I support individuals, couples, and families working through anxiety, relationship and family concerns, life transitions, emotional challenges, and personal growth. As a person-centered and holistic mental health clinician, I help you navigate these moments, the ones that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of yourself, while prioritizing a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel supported, valued, and understood. That starts with meeting you with compassion, respect, and the understanding that you are the expert of your own life. Because of that, I see myself as a collaborative partner who walks alongside you, rather than someone who defines what healing should look like on your behalf. I look forward to helping you feel more connected to yourself, recognize the strengths you already carry, and build the confidence to create meaningful change in ways that feel authentic to who you are.

What should a new client know about working with you?

DISCLAIMER: We are not accepting Medicare or Medicaid plans at this time. Becoming a therapist grew out of a deep sense of compassion for others and a belief that everyone deserves a space where they feel heard, understood, and accepted for who they are. That belief comes from always valuing having someone who can sit beside you through difficult moments without judgment and offer support as you find your own way forward, which deepened my commitment to compassionate, individualized care where you do not have to fit into a certain mold to experience healing and growth. I bring warmth, empathy, and genuine curiosity to each session, meeting you where you are and creating space for you to better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, and move toward a life that feels meaningful and authentic to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Healing can look different for everyone, so my approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized, meeting you where you are rather than asking you to fit into one specific path. I want you to feel safe enough to explore your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and make choices that feel authentic to who you are and the life you want to build — that's what genuine growth requires. In practice, I draw on person-centered and cognitive behavioral approaches to help you better understand your emotions, recognize patterns, build practical coping skills, and create changes that feel meaningful and sustainable. Throughout, my style stays supportive and collaborative, shaped around your unique experiences, needs, strengths, and goals rather than a one-size-fits-all process.
