Getting to know Dr. Mary (Kati) Sanders

In times of stress, it can feel as though it is you against the world and that control is limited. My goal is to foster a sense of both acceptance of these situations and commitment to tackling them in an adaptive way while also exploring how previous experiences have shaped the way you approach life. I hold a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University, a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University, and a Bachelor's degree from the University of St. Francis.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*Please check your insurance benefits prior to booking as you may still need to pay out of pocket. Also, we do not provide documentation or medication management.* My area of expertise is in working with individuals with eating disorders/disordered eating as well as individuals struggling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I also specialize in working with individuals who are experiencing stressors in their everyday lives which can result in anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues. Most of my work is rooted in concerns around self-esteem, relationships, and development over the life course. Over the course of my career, I've worked in various settings including community mental health, college counseling, substance abuse and eating disorder programs, trauma-informed intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, inpatient hospitalization units, and private practice. I primarily utilize third-wave behavioral interventions and have extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I approach therapy in a warm, non-judgmental way so as to foster a comfortable setting for clients that encourages communication. With this, continuous effort is made to facilitate affirmative, validating, and open dialogue. Above all else, I place emphasis on showing up as authentically as possible in the therapy room and I encourage clients to do the same.

Professional and personable. Highly recommend her!
I saw Dr. Amanda and she was great. Made me comfortable right away and offered a lot of great insight. I'm excited to work with her!
After months of looking for a therapist who I felt comfortable with, I finally had a session with Dr. Kati. She was patient and easy to talk to. I didn't feel any judgment, and she was able to help me feel empowered enough to make the changes I needed to make for my anxiety, depression and trauma. If you book a session with Dr. Kati be prepared to be heard and validated.
I had to often repeat things from a previous session and any time a new crossroad would come up, she would say “we’ll work on that in the future”. For the time being I felt like we were just talking in circles and repeating things without really getting into details.

Dr. Kati is the sweetest! She took the time to listen to me fully, validate my feelings, and give me feedback as to what I was going through. I know I have a long way to go but I know she will help me get there!

I could not be more pleased with the professionalism and clear guidance leading up to our first session. It built confidence that I had made a good inquiry. Plus, Dr Kati was beyond my expectations for trust, kindness, transparency and wisdom. Thank you!
