Getting to know Mary Kurzon

As a clinician with 24 years of experience in mental health, I believe that finding a provider with whom a client feels validated, safe, and accepted is key to a successful counseling experience. I pride myself on creating that space for those in need of therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take an eclectic approach to counseling, depending on the issue at hand, and prefer that clients articulate his/her treatment goals for therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the initial session, I get a clearer sense of what brings you to counseling and how you've been affected by the issue(s) at hand. I do this by asking questions about how you've been managing, both in your personal and professional/academic life. If time allows, I also like to begin to become acquainted with my clients--what his/her life experiences have been, beginning with childhood. As we wrap up the first session, I will ask my client to consider treatment goals (what he/she hopes to accomplish in counseling).

During Covid I needed a professional therapist to help get me through a mental rough patch. I was able to get in with Mary right away. She has helped me greatly by giving me the tools and resources needed to get me back on my life track. I was hesitant about therapy at first but Mary put me at ease and reminded me that everyone needs support sometimes. I feel that in the past 2 years of seeing her that I have grown tremendously as a person and I have healed so much past trauma. We all need a support system in life and I’m happy I found Mary to be apart of my journey.
Mary Kurzon presents a warm and empathetic manner during each session and is very knowledgeable in her field and very professional in her interactions. She offers a variety of treatment strategies and explains them clearly. I have benefited greatly from her wise counsel and would highly recommend her to others.
We were extremely fortunate to find Mary through a friend who also benefited from her services. My husband and myself needed help with our 25 year old son’s mental health problems. Mary supported our journey into this, providing us with much insight and knowledge. Mary is respectful, witty, timely and excellent in her advice. We’ve used our notes from our sessions in times we were unsure in how to handle a situation with our son. She is that good! Take notes!
I highly recommend Mary Kurzon as a personal and family counselor. Mary helped me understand the family issues I was dealing with which made it possible for me to make changes which led to positive results. I had online appointments with Mary for two years. Her caring and kind nature came through at all of these appointments. I am so grateful that my search for a therapist led me to Mary Kurzon.
I came to Mary with some specific goals in mind, and I like that she has stayed focused on my goals and has held me accountable to pursuing them. With her help I have been able to muster needed courage and to have her corrective feedback to help me stay on course. I see Mary online Telehealth and it is much easier to fit into my life this way than in person. It feels like we are in the room together. Mary is smart and quickly reads what is going on. she asks pointed questions. With her years of experience she brings also wisdom. And when life has been hard, she has been kind and compassionate in her understanding.
I have been seeing Ms. Kurzon for years now- she’s helped me leave an abusive marriage, subsequently face a very difficult divorce, navigate day-to-day activities in between, and provide insight on how to better communicate/coparent with a person that likely suffers from a personality disorder. She is prompt, caring, and communicates very well. I highly recommend her!
My husband and I have been seeing Mary together for almost 3 years. She is empathetic, patient, kind, and professional. With Mary’s help, we’ve been able to improve our communication skills at home and with others in general. We came to Mary at a time of crisis in our marriage, and can honestly say she had a large part in saving our marriage and helping us do the work necessary to get to where we are today.
I’ve been seeing Mary for over a year and am very happy I found her. She has helped me work through PPD and has been a trusted sounding board for other challenges I have experienced. She is professional, conscientious and experienced. I would recommend Ms. Kurzon to anyone seeking help.
Mary has literally saved my life. I never thought I had anxiety and she explained to me what it was and almost had me diagnose myself which was very rewarding. She is the first counselor Ive ever had that had me read and go over things and also didn't just "stroke" me to say its okay its everyone else not you. She made me see where I was faltering and how to pick myself up and find happiness again.
