If childhood trauma or the effects of traumatic life events have been interfering with your relationships, work or school performance, sleeping and eating habits, or causing problems with substance abuse, self-injury, depression, and/or anxiety, and you want to find someone to help you heal, I may be the therapist for you. I am a certified clinical trauma professional with a Master's in Social Work from the University at Buffalo (North Campus), and I have been studying and training on trauma, its effects, and treatments for many years. I understand how difficult it is when friends or family tell you to "just get over" what happened to you. It's not that easy, is it? Who would want to suffer from the debilitating effects that trauma and traumatic loss bring? Absolutely no one. What you're going through is understandable, considering what you've experienced. So much more is now known about the effects and treatment of mental, emotional, physical, and sexual trauma than ever before. I know because I am always updating my knowledge, and I have many tools in my trauma toolbox to help you. I have been working with clients for over 25 years, and I always start with a person-centered approach. That means my focus is always on you-getting to know you and building a working relationship where you'll feel comfortable and safe. This builds the foundation for the work. I believe it is absolutely critical for you to feel empowered, while I keep the direction of therapy moving. Despite what some people think about trauma therapy, it is not only about talking about your trauma. In fact, most often that will only make things worse. I will teach you how trauma has affected your brain, neurobiological chemicals, muscles, thoughts, and behaviors. Then we will work on reducing the negative effects of trauma, such as feelings of guilt and shame, and increase feelings of well-being, relaxation, and peace-which will reach into many areas of your life.
