It’s hard to sum up my life and experience into a couple paragraphs, but I promise I’m a person under all of these things with challenges and changes like we all face. I look forward to getting to meet you and hope we can share some space together to work on your best self. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 15 years of experience in mental health both on Active Duty in the United States Navy and in the Federal Civil Service. I most recently worked as the Supervisory Social Worker at the United States Agency for International Development, overseeing therapy services for our staff serving and living around the globe. I specialize in treating severe anxiety disorders, mood disorders and post-traumatic stress with cognitive behavioral therapy modalities and mindfulness based practices. I enjoy working with diverse, multicultural clients in building goals towards improved wellness, and better managing stress through mindfulness-based, holistic lifestyle practices. I have additional experience in medical social work, residential substance treatment and aviation medicine for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. I’ve also worked as an Equal Opportunity Officer for the United States Navy and a Transition Assistance Officer for service members undergoing gender affirmation surgery. In my previous roles, I’ve provided supervision to graduate students and post graduate Associate Social Workers as the Graduate Medical Education Supervisory Social Worker and the Chief of Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. When I’m not working, I like to spend my time working out, working on my yard, or working on annoying my family with outdoor activities. I’m an avid hiker, IG obsessed foodie, and love to spend time out on the river paddleboarding on a sunny day. I have a love for all things travel, but I still find time for Netflix on the sofa with my friends.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I practice from a humanistic and person centered lens, but with advanced cognitive behavioral therapy skills, including ERP and PET for difficult to treat OCD and PTSD symptoms. I want every client to feel valued as their authentic selves and find the motivation from within to help reach their goals. Nothing we do in therapy happens without a whole lot of trust, and I will spend some time getting to know you and understanding your life, your perspective and your goals before we dive in to the hard stuff. I hope that you feel empowered and in control of your choices in therapy and look to help build your confidence and spirit with every session. Sessions can be structured or more free flowing depending on what our agreed goals are for care--sometimes we need to talk it through and examine our experiences, and sometimes we need to practice new skills. It's all about your needs here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For our initial session, I will plan to spend about an hour getting to know you, hearing about your history of care, and talk through any previous challenges or barriers to getting care. I will answer any questions you may have about therapy, let you get to know me, and hopefully start getting a picture of what may be impacting you. My goal is not to diagnose you with a label, but to understand where there are challenges and what symptoms are occurring that are impacting your ability to reach your goals. If a diagnosis is made, you can expect me to spend a lot of time on education and discussing treatment options--nothing with happen in therapy without your full agreement and understanding of why a choice was made.
