Getting to know Mary Ridderman

Hi! My name is Mary Beth Ridderman. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida. In addition to my state licensure, I hold credentials as a National Certified Counselor, Qualified LMHC Supervisor, Certified Clinical Military Counselor, Certified Life Coach, Board Certified Tele-mental Health Counselor, Social Investigator, and Qualified Parenting Coordinator in Florida Circuits 3, 4, and 8. I am proud to be a member of Chi Sigma Iota, an International Academic and Professional Counseling Honor Society. I am also a Registered Play Therapist, working with people of all ages to add engaging and fun personal growth activities to traditional counseling. As a lifelong learner, I am currently enrolled to earn certification as a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor. A key part of play therapy is sand tray therapy, and I am passionate about collecting miniature items or "symbols" representing all aspects of life. During video sessions, you will see my office and part of my collection. I enjoy teaching other therapists and students about play therapy and sand tray therapy at universities and professional conferences. With twenty years of experience working with families as a child advocate in the court system, I provide social investigations and assist parents and children involved in contentious divorce or visitation issues. One rewarding experience was providing individual and group counseling for seven years in a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. My specialties include working with individuals experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, anger, traumatic brain injury, or family issues. My main approaches are Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy. Clients find that I genuinely like people from all walks of life, am non-judgmental, and an excellent listener.

What should a new client know about working with you?

A large part of the first session involves intake questions - getting to know each other. If time permits, often clients leave the first session with at least one technique or strategy. Sometimes, there is homework! The purpose of homework is to extend your learning about the topic we discussed in session. Homework may be something as simple as spending an hour outdoors.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

She has been fantastic. She is easy to open up to, helps me find solutions that work for me, offers homework and resources that are impactful, and is very empowering.
Mary Beth is awesome. She is warm and encouraging, but doesn't let you hide from challenging feelings. She is never judgmental and always provides kind reframing of my most self-critical moments. She has helped me learn to be kinder to myself and care for myself as well as I do others.
