Getting to know Mary (Stefanie) Smith

There is help for suffering, PTSD, anxiety, and more that does not always involve digging up the past but can work right now to bring relief. Are you hurting or stuck? Often, our past laid down unconscious survival mechanisms that are at work today but are no longer useful. We can work together to discover these and then insert a new, more useful tool that allows more ease in your world. I help you identify your current needs so they can be supported. I specialize in adult adoptees (I am one myself). I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use a direct approach to therapy and I always assume that you are capable of learning new ways of being with yourself. I work in several different mediums, depending on the needs at the time. This could involve somatic therapy, inner child work, attachment, mindful grounding among others. I have extensive experience with family systems and trauma work and my clients are surprised at how quickly things can change directions. I use a collaborative approach with you to help bring about relief from discomfort to living an optimal life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have many tools that can bring relief and use many different modalities, including ketamine assisted therapy as well as psychedelic integrative therapy. We typically discuss goals and desired outcomes upfront as well as what has typically gotten in the way of success. I have a series of exercises that can be enlightening to the client revealing underlying processes and needs that are really at play. Working with what the true needs are that are uncovered often can bring new relief and insights into feeling stuck.

I am a private pay therapist that provides a superbill (statement) to you for submission to your insurance so that you can be reimbursed. Most insurances will add this towards any deductible that you may have. I request that payment is due at time of service.
