Getting to know Mary Susan Lyons

I am Susan, a former Marine and native Texan with a passion for providing the gift of therapy to others. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Tarleton State University and have worked for over seven years with adults with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Usher Syndrome, and other disabilities in various capacities. I love working with neurodiverse people, as a neurodiverse person myself. As a veteran, I also enjoy working with veterans. I approach therapy from a trauma-informed and humanistic perspective, understanding that my clients are the experts on themselves, although I may be able to offer some insight. In our sessions together, my clients can expect to take away the coping skills necessary for the hard times. I aim to empower my clients by teaching them how to set appropriate boundaries with others and to advocate for themselves. I consider myself an LGBTQ+ ally and have experience working with lesbian, gay, and transgender youth as well. I like to collaborate with my clients; your input is so important for creating an effective treatment plan.
