Maryam Edun, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* I help older children, teens, and adults navigate challenges related to neurodivergence, anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, parenting, and minority stress. In a welcoming and compassionate environment, I support you in learning and practicing new skills in ways that feel natural and personalized, with sensitivity to your intersecting identities and communities. I believe therapy can foster growth by helping you process trauma, build new skills, and have a safe space where you can fully be yourself. I strive to create a warm, secure, and gently challenging space where you can feel safe to laugh, cry, pout, and openly stim without judgment. I bring my own neurodivergence to sessions and am happy to stim, fidget, or accommodate sensory needs right alongside you. (And yes-you are welcome to ask me about my favorite fidgets!) Starting therapy can feel daunting, and it’s normal to feel hesitant. If you think I might be a good fit, know that you have full autonomy in your therapy-you decide the direction we take, the goals we work on, the skills you want to practice, and more. Working with me means having a gentle, supportive, and empathic guide as you move toward the changes you want for yourself. Maryam Edun has a Master’s degree from Fordham University. Maryam Edun is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), #120500 (NY). Supervised by Victoria Garofalo, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), #077045.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work primarily with older children, teens, and adults navigating ADHD, autism, trauma, anxiety, chronic illness, and parenting-related challenges. I bring extensive experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients and am trans-affirming, kink-positive, sex-positive, and poly-positive. I also have additional expertise working with neurodivergent clients, BIPOC communities, immigrants and children of immigrants, and Muslim clients. My clinical approach is integrative and collaborative, and I tailor therapy to each person’s unique needs. I draw from evidence-based practices including LGBTQ+ Affirmative CBT, Progressive Counting, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Polyvagal Theory to create compassionate, individualized, and meaningful outcomes. My goal is to provide a supportive space where clients feel seen, understood, and empowered as they work toward their goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a queer, mixed-race, neurodivergent, second-generation, mom of two, with chronic illness, I bring lived experience and a deep understanding of intersectionality, oppression, and resilience. In sessions with me, you can expect a trauma-informed, social-justice–oriented space where we move at your pace, center safety, and explore your experiences within their full personal and systemic context. Our work is collaborative and goal-focused, emphasizing skill-building, emotional regulation, and measurable progress toward your goals while gently exploring the structural and societal systems that impact your mental health and life circumstances.
