Mathew Skrezyna-Wunsch, LMSW

Psychotherapist
110 Lafayette Street, New York, NY
Therapy is not a “one size fits all” scenario, and you deserve a person-centered approach to your care that is tailored to your individual needs. My role as your therapist is to ensure your needs are being met and that you are working toward becoming the best version of yourself. I chose to be a therapist because I saw firsthand the lack of representation among the LGBTQIA+ community and the absence of providers who truly understand the issues we face as a community. You deserve a therapist who can relate to you and your experiences. Seeking to change old patterns and behaviors is hard, and I am excited to potentially go on this journey with you to help you become the best version of yourself. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Stony Brook University and am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and SIFI-certified psychotherapist. I specialize in working with clients exploring polyamory, nonmonogamy, and sex work. Mat Wunsch, LMSW, SIFI Psychotherapist Poly/Nonmonogamy/SW

What should a new client know about working with you?

It's true that we can't always control what happens to us, but we do have the power to shape how we perceive and respond to those events, especially with a solid therapeutic connection. Adverse childhood and adult experiences, along with the impacts of systemic discrimination such as racism, sexism, homophobia, bullying, transphobia, ableism, and xenophobia, make it difficult to establish a sense of empowerment and authenticity in navigating our lives. My work emphasizes my passion to the commitment of creating safe and affirming spaces for healing for you and/or your loved ones to feel comfortable talking about the uncomfortable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to use an anti-oppressive approach to help break down any systemic barriers you might encounter and empower you to navigate life with confidence and resilience. Each session looks so different and I always say have no expectations for sessions come as you are. The best sessions are the ones that you say to me " What do we talk about?" Central to my work is building a long-term partnership with you to navigate through the different chapters of your life. I look forward to going on this journey with you!
