Psychotherapist

Hi there, I'm Matthew! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Pennsylvania. I received my Master's from Mount Aloysius College and have been practicing for a little over 3 years. My background stems from being an inpatient counselor working with drug and alcohol clients, as well as mental health clients. I found a great passion in helping people in those areas and would like to continue to do that on Rula. My approach I prefer to utilize MI (Motivational Interviewing) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as my approaches to treatment. MI can become highly effective, especially when the therapeutic alliance is established. MI allows you to look inward and find the answers to your own questions, challenges, and struggles when this modality is being used properly. As for CBT, I was trained to utilize this approach as a drug and alcohol counselor. It became very effective with not only substance use issues, but also mental health concerns. CBT allows you to understand how your thoughts can impact your behaviors and actions, which allows patterns/tendencies to be shown. My focus Throughout my experience as a drug and alcohol counselor, I learned that mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and trauma were very common and correlated with substance abuse. Also, substance use can lead to destruction in relationships, where couples counseling was then facilitated. In addition, loss of hope, purpose, and passion became highly prevalent with clients in this field. With that being said, I would love to continue that work and help people with any type of addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, and finding their purpose in life. Therapy can be life-changing, as I have seen it firsthand, and I would love to take that step forward with you! My communication style I am calm, collective, supportive, and patient when communicating with clients. However, I enjoy providing statements that are to the point, challenging questions, and feedback.
