Getting to know Matthew Field

I hold the conviction that the objective of therapy is to discover a space to explore and comprehend your Self. I think your journey, irrespective of any diagnosis or prevailing issues, should lead you to a better understanding of your place in the world - a principle deeply ingrained in my approach. My role is to serve as a navigator in your process of healing and self-discovery, using a person-centered approach. I utilize methods based on attachment science and emotional focus, and weave together your thoughts and emotions as you navigate your personal story. This process has an existential element to it, rooted in your identity and the experiences you encounter in life. As we progress, we examine aspects of your life that can be altered, those that must be accepted, and we mourn for the things that are unalterable and unacceptable. My training has taught me to view situations through a systemic lens. I did my master’s in marriage, couples, and family counseling at George Fox University, which informed my belief that one's mental health is an amalgamation of their family, relationships, and environment. Before this, I pursued human development at Warner Pacific College, a study highlighting life's growth, wounds, healing, and changes. Becoming a therapist was my way of guiding people on their journey to growth. I chose this path to provide support for those in pain and accompany them on their healing journey. My therapy aims to alleviate suffering and witness the joy of transformation. What you can anticipate from our therapy is an open space for you to discuss what matters most to you. While I might occasionally steer the conversation, my primary goal is for you to feel comfortable discussing your needs. However, I am available to provide direction, particularly when goals are set to identify progress and healing.
