“Matt is a great listener and has a knack for connecting. I always get a chuckle as he seems to come up with a golden nugget in the first 30 minutes of each session, something that shines a light on what I may be having difficulty describing. ”

Getting to know Matthew Kelly

I am compassionate, understanding, will help you challenge the status quo in your life, and achieve a more satisfying way of being in the world. I have an M.A. from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Marriage and Family Therapy, and have completed additional graduate course work at Amberton University. My professional experience of eight years doing counseling and therapy includes treating a wide range of emotional disorders, spiritual problems, addictions, and helping people overcome internal barriers to their goals. I love to travel, and have lived for extended periods in Asia, the Middle East, and South America. I have worked in jails, mental institutions, private practice, and treatment centers. These diverse experiences afford me a compassionate, understanding view, and a confidence that anyone can achieve progress if they are willing to apply themselves. If we are a good match, I am excited to be of service and help you get unstuck, overcome pain, accept the past, move forward, and achieve your goals in life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The first step is clearly identifying your goals, and getting to know you as an individual. From there, we use a Solution Focused approach to identify actionable skills to move the needle towards healing in your life. As therapy progresses, we will use an eclectic approach of psychodynamic and CBT techniques to process your story and resolve deeply held thoughts and beliefs that may be barriers to the more satisfying life that you want. With a view to not be in therapy forever, we develop a plan to continue and maintain growth and identify next steps. Please note: I only work with people who are serious about therapy, and I will charge a $75 cancellation fee for no-shows and those who do not cancel session before 24 hours.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You will leave each session with fresh insights, and actionable steps based on those insights feeling supported, challenged, and with added clarity. Please note that there will be days that deeper issues may come up and may not always feel pleasant, but I will leave you with tools to continue processing through difficult emotions, and arrive at the other side. This is growth and healing.

Working with Matthew has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life. When I started therapy, I felt lost, stuck in bad habits, and disconnected from who I truly was. Through his guidance, I learned that real healing comes from letting God into the process. Matthew helped me see that my struggles were not signs of failure, but invitations to grow closer to Him. Little by little, I began to replace my old routines with prayer, gratitude, and faith. I started to see myself through God’s eyes not as broken, but as becoming whole. Matthew reminded me that grace is stronger than guilt and that transformation begins with surrender. Today, I’m more at peace, more grounded, and walking with purpose. I’m learning to let go of what no longer serves me and to trust the path God has set before me. Through Matthew’s wisdom, I’ve found faith, healing, and a renewed sense of self.

Personally, I loved having the opportunity to do therapy with Mathew. Besides being an excellent professional, he is a human being with extraordinary values. I felt very confident talking to him and he helped me a lot to heal my past wounds and create a new approach for my future life. I highly recommend it, since I have personally been a bit skeptical of therapy, but this time the results have been extremely positive, and I feel that it is helping me a lot with my emotions and, most importantly, the spiritual and faith-based approach that its sessions have.
I was initially hesitant about starting therapy, but I'm so glad I did. From the get go Matthew created a safe and welcoming environment where I felt comfortable sharing my deepest fears and anxieties. He is incredibly insightful in helping me identify the root causes of addition and negative thought patterns. I've noticed a significant improvement in my self-esteem and my ability to manage a substance free life. I'm now able to execute positive coping mechanisms. I highly recommend Matthew to anyone seeking a compassionate and effective therapist.
My visit with Matthew was pleasant, I felt like I was truly listened to and he provided me with great advice that I’ve been able to apply to my everyday life and I feel like I am now headed in the right direction and I’ve had many learning experiences during every visit. He’s definitely someone I would recommend seeing and he has so much to provide.
