What should a new client know about working with you?

Individual therapy is an opportunity to explore your feelings and thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental environment. I take a psychodynamic approach to individual therapy, which will help you to understand the root causes of your struggles and how to make meaningful changes in your life. You will be guided to develop insight into your personal history and relationships, and ultimately, come to a greater understanding of yourself. Couples counseling is a powerful way to strengthen relationships. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples identify and work through any issues that may be causing distress in the relationship. Through this approach, couples can experience improved communication, closeness, and understanding. Discernment Counseling is a form of counseling designed to help couples who are not sure if they should stay together or separate. It helps them to explore their options, clarify their feelings, and make an informed decision. Discernment Counseling provides the space and guidance to help couples navigate their relationship in a safe and effective manner. I have a passion for understanding the stories, experiences, and relationships that influence how we grow and develop as individuals. I work with clients to explore their histories, experiences in the here-and-now, emotions, and beliefs in a way that fosters self-understanding and self-compassion. Every therapeutic experience is unique, and it is incredibly rewarding to help clients build more meaningful and fulfilling lives. I welcome people from all backgrounds to my practice, including couples from the LGBTQ+ community and clients in polyamorous relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our initial consultation will be a chance for us to get to know each other, and determine whether we will be a good fit for working together. We'll spend roughly thirty minutes discussing what is bringing you into therapy at the moment, past experiences within therapy, and relevant history. I'll explain my approach, and provide time to answer any questions you may have about what therapy with me will look like. For couples, our initial session will take place with me and both members of the couple. If we determine we're a good fit to work together, we'll then have individual sessions with me and each member of the couple separately. This is so I can learn more about both of your individual experiences within your relationship, before we begin the joint couples therapy sessions.
