“After 5 years of working with Matt, I feel better about myself, my mental health and my current situation with life in general and have overcome so many of the obstacles I was letting hold myself back. The person I was before therapy with Matt would have never been able to accomplish the things I have been able to since working with him. I still have work to do but I’m glad to know it will be with his wisdom, guidance and encouragement.”

Getting to know Matthew Semanision

My name is Matt Semanision, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Pennsylvania. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Marywood University. I have spent the majority of my professional career working with the LGBTQIA+ population. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps toward change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. My approach to therapy is grounded in honest, open communication, with mutual respect being of utmost importance. My wish for you is that you feel safe enough to share your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I believe the only way to get the most out of our therapeutic relationship is for you and me to work together in establishing mutually agreed-upon goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I will help you identify goals more clearly and guide you in making decisions. In my experience, some people are afraid to enter therapy for fear of making changes in their lives or being afraid of being told the “have to” do things. My approach will be absent of “have to” and will focus on “what do you want to do?” I employ a combination of cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psycho-dynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I will help you based on the information you provide me using proven, evidenced methods. Thank you and I look forward to working with you! Best, Matt

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

quite possibly the best therapist i've ever come across. beyond what i was looking for.

Matthew is very warm, authentic, and empowering. The first session with him already made me feel like I've made the right choice in starting therapy. I think his approach is effective and provides a lot of tailored work and conversations geared for exactly what each person is going through.
Working with Matt has become a fundamental part of me staying consistent in my wellness journey. He holds me accountable in ways that are respectful and encouraging but direct and actually address the underlying factors at play. Sessions are comfortable and consistently beneficial to the point where after nearly every single one so far I’ve said “LETS GO!!” After ending it cus I’m so charged up to face life head on. Fantastic guy, fantastic therapist, 10/10
Matt accomplished so much for me in one therapy session, that two previous therapist could not. The main reason is Matt's compassion for listening and helping his clients, specifically in the LBGTQ community. Highly recommend him to all populations for bettering themselves and learning to believe in themselves.
Amazing. Really listens, is great at challenging my way of thinking and always providing possible new avenues of doing things to help break habits that cause my anxiety. Really getting to the root of things
Matt seriously has helped me in a few short months more than any other therapist I've seen. He's approachable, authentic, and makes me feel validated in my mental health journey. I would absolutely recommend him again and again.
