Getting to know Matthew Willner

I provide affirming and knowledgeable psychotherapy to individuals and romantic partners, with a focus on the LGBTQIA+, non-monogamous, and BDSM/kink communities. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds and careers who are navigating a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity development. To me, therapy is both an avenue for processing our personal struggles and part of combating the oppressive systems that undermine well-being. In that vein, as a queer cis white man, I strive to cultivate an antiracist and anti-oppressive practice. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Columbia University, which informs my commitment to providing thoughtful, inclusive care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is a collaborative, relational process, where it is my goal to provide you with support and tools to navigate life's challenges. I have an eclectic therapy style, but primarily draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic theory to support our work. I am an internal family systems trained therapist by the IFS Institute.
