Getting to know Mayra Sotomayor

I have experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, survivors of human trafficking, relationship issues, life transitions, and first-generation and immigrant families. I have worked in various environments such as community mental health, faith-based programs, and intensive care. I approach therapy through a trauma-informed lens that fosters mindfulness, awareness, and self-compassion. I became a therapist because I wanted to empower individuals to live lives filled with purpose, hope, and joy. I am passionate about helping others heal, feel empowered, and embrace life without shame or guilt. A unique aspect of my approach is my commitment to providing holistic care, helping clients understand how our physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being all contribute to life satisfaction. I am fluent in Spanish, and you will find me genuine, warm, and creative. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
