“Megan has been my therapist for awhile now and she has helped me more than I could ever put into words. She’s always professional and on time; I’ve never had to wait for my session to start. Megan makes me feel comfortable even when the subject matter gets intense. I’ve grown so much as a person since I started seeing her. I could not recommend her more if I tried! Highly recommend her services. ”

“I have been seeing Megan for several years now. She helped me work through my gender questions. After that was resolved we began working on personal growth. I am learning what is healthy and what is not. She has helped me learn coping mechanisms that are healthier than the denial, avoidance, and toxic positivity. The progress I’ve made over the past four years feels remarkable. I think it’s safe to say had I been seeing anyone but Megan, my therapy would have ended with transition. But she makes me feel safe to heal from my trauma. ”

Getting to know Megan Collins

An estimated 5 million women in the United States have been diagnosed with PCOS. Typically, by the time a person receives the diagnosis, they have dealt with symptoms for years that can create depression, body image issues, disordered eating or eating disorder symptoms, anxiety, medical trauma, relationship struggles, grief (specifically with fertility issues), and low self-esteem. Being validated with a diagnosis can be a light at the end of a long tunnel, but then what? Here, you will find support, encouragement, validation, and best of all, direction. I specialize in body image, eating disorders and disordered eating, body dysmorphic disorder, intuitive eating support, and repairing relationships with food and body image. I have years of experience at the highest levels of care in addressing these disorders. I also specialize in PCOS management and support. We will learn skills to keep symptoms managed. I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology from Chapman University, which informs my compassionate and evidence-based approach to care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is challenging and hard by design, but the relationship between client and therapist doesn't have to be! I provide a space of empathy and support as you begin this healing journey. I will bring advanced education, specialty training, and experience and you bring your vulnerability, and together, we will work towards your healing beginning.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Each session will look different depending on what is happening in life outside of session. I will guide our process from intake to assessment to diagnosis, and from there a treatment plan that we both agree on. I will be responsible for identifying patterns, maladaptive coping skills, opportunity for support and encouragement, need for new or redirected goals and so forth. You will let me know if there is a pressing need or issue outside of session and we will make time to address that in a space that is safe and judgement-free.

As a therapist myself, I’m pretty judgmental when it comes to finding a good therapist. I’ve had my share of therapist and Megan checks all the boxes. We’ve only ever done tele-psych but you can feel the genuineness through the screen. She’s always engaged and present and never distracted. She’s funny and relatable, which I value in a therapist. Transitioning from Kaiser therapy to private practice has been the best decision I’ve made. The flexibility, availability and check ins have made a significant impact on my healing. I’ve worked with Megan for 2 years now and have gained so much insight, awareness and validation. She has also collaborated with my psychiatrist to ensure they are communicating about my symptoms and care. I’ve also received couples therapy with my girlfriend, and we learned some valuable communication tools. If you’re wondering if you should start therapy, just start. You won’t regret it. Megan is the perfect therapist to walk alongside you in this journey.
I worked with many therapist through Kaiser and had horrible experiences. The wait time to be seen was ridiculous and I always felt rushed during session. I have been seeing megan for the past two years and she has honestly been the best therapist I have ever worked with! She is always available when needed, is reasonably priced and has flexible appointment times.
