The transition to adulthood wasn't meant to be easy. Starting as early as our teenage years and continuing into our mid-twenties, we are expected to balance everything from relationships and school drama to emotional distress and identity crises. It's an impossible task that we're all put through. So then, why do you feel particularly overwhelmed? Why is it that no one else seems to be struggling as much as you? Well, I'm here to tell you: You are not alone. For some of us, this is also the age when we begin to discover our childhood wounds. Trauma from our past starts to creep in at every corner and kick us when we're down. For instance, you may have discovered that what once worked for you as a kid, like masking your emotions and suffering in silence, isn't effective anymore. But how are you supposed to heal when there is already so much on your plate? That's why I am here-to support you in this difficult journey. While we may not get to ?choose where we come from, we can choose where we go from there? (Chbosky). An important part of growing up is relearning the negative coping skills and teachings we picked up as kids so that we can live healthier and happier lives. As our environment changes and the people we surround ourselves with evolve, so do we. Therefore, it is important to adapt so that we can fit into our new lives. It is not easy to let go of the skills, lessons, and behaviors that have kept us safe for so long, but it is important for us to do so in order to live our best lives. The pain will feel insurmountable at times, but that's how you know you're healing. If you keep pushing through, I promise you that it is worth it. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan, and I am committed to guiding you through this process with empathy and understanding.
