Dr. Megan Higinbotham, PhD

Dr. Megan Higinbotham, PhD

Psychotherapist
25550 Hawthorne Blvd, Ste 316, Torrance, CA
I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with children, teens, adults, and families. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University and utilize evidence-based practices to ensure I provide the best treatment possible. My approach is warm, empathetic, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. As a CBT-trained clinician, I view each client through a strengths-based lens, helping to foster growth and healing while teaching tangible skills that clients can use long after therapy ends. Being a mom has deepened my understanding of how to connect with and support children’s growth. Many of the skills I teach my young patients are ones I also use with my toddler at home. One of my favorite aspects of working with children and families is collaborating and brainstorming as a team to try different techniques that might work for each unique family or family member. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, and I truly believe everyone should have the skills to feel equipped and confident to overcome life’s challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is about getting to know you and/or your family members. I will typically meet with the parent and child for the first half of the first session to discuss your concerns, gather background information, and begin to build a safe and trusting relationship. For the second half of the session, if the child feels comfortable, I like to meet with them individually to continue to build rapport.
