Megan Knowles, LPC

Megan Knowles, LPC

Psychotherapist
IL
I have always been drawn to stories and the way they reveal who we are, how we hurt, and how we heal. That passion started with books and movies, which inspired me to pursue a career in journalism and writing. After starting my own therapy journey, something shifted. I realized that my favorite moments in my job weren’t putting words on a page, but the conversations I had where people shared their lives. Becoming a therapist allowed me to follow that curiosity and connection more fully. I feel incredibly fortunate to walk alongside clients as they explore their personal narratives and navigate the challenges of the current chapter. My hope is that our work helps you better understand your story and move forward with greater clarity, self-compassion, and intention.

Getting to know Megan Knowles

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adults, individuals and couples, from diverse backgrounds who are navigating anxiety, phobias, relational trauma, ADHD, emotional dysregulation, relationship concerns, depression, life transitions, work-related stress, and grief related to chronic illness. I am passionate about helping clients navigate mood disorders such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and seasonal affective disorder (SAD).In our work together, I aim to create a warm and supportive space where you feel safe exploring all aspects of yourself. Therapy can be a place to better understand what you are experiencing, strengthen your relationships, and reconnect with what matters most to you. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting, especially when you are unsure where to begin. If any part of this resonates with you, you do not have to navigate it alone. I welcome the opportunity to support you in building greater understanding, balance, and connection in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

With all of the competing expectations in our personal and professional lives, it is easy to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and disconnected from what truly matters. My approach to therapy is collaborative and compassionate. I strive to provide a judgment free space where you can share your triumphs, challenges, uncertainties, joys and everything in between. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you identify barriers and take steps aligned with your values. I also integrate an existential perspective, encouraging reflection on purpose and meaning, and insights from attachment theory to support the development of more secure connections with yourself and others. In our work together, my goal is to help you better understand your experiences, strengthen your relationships, and reconnect with what matters most. Therapy is a space to explore, grow, and take meaningful steps forward, and I am here to guide and support you throughout that journey.
