Megan Lapointe, ASW

Psychotherapist
CA
I am easy to talk to and have a passion for making people feel seen and heard. I have worked in the field of social work and mental health for over 7 years. I have experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and elders. I have worked with current and former foster youth, children and families in the adoption setting, hospice care, and schools. I am an advocate for self-care and I practice self-care by weightlifting, reading, playing with my cat, and spending quality time with my family and friends. My approach to therapy with clients is utilizing the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model to help an individual understand the impact their thoughts have on their behavior. I also utilize a strength-based approach that allows each client to realize their full potential. I strive to create a warm, safe, and trusting environment so each client feels safe to express themselves openly and honestly. Clients can expect to feel heard, supported, and safe during and after sessions with me. Clients can expect to take away the realization that they are smarter, stronger, and more capable than they may believe they are. I attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Afterward, I obtained my Masters in Social Work at California State University, Fullerton. I started my social work career as a clinical case manager with youth aging out of the foster care system. The clinical aspect of that position helped me realize how important therapy is to helping guide others to making the best choices on their own. I recently started working as a mental health clinician at a high school and saw firsthand the impact therapy has on one’s self-esteem, mental health, and over wellbeing.
