Meghann Vela, LMFT, LPCC

Psychotherapist
MN
As a licensed therapist with a Master’s in Counseling from Sonoma State University, I believe my role is to be a tool for change and support as you walk your own path. I operate from the assumption that you are the expert of your own life, and I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. I bring unconditional warmth and empathy to sessions while also helping clients determine their own negative beliefs or patterns that may be contributing to feelings of distress. With increased awareness and insight, together we can work on letting go of fear and resentment, healing past wounds, expressing needs and boundaries, and building healthy relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am very laid back in my approach to therapy and believe that providing a safe space to clients is one of the most important building blocks for the work. I often use self-disclosure as a way to connect and bridge the gap, but only when appropriate to the situation. I enjoy working with clients who are open to processing through their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I work with all populations, but have specialized training in perinatal mental health. Perinatal mental health is my niche passion and I specialize in the unique needs that are presented during this life phase. I am a mom myself, and I offer both a professional and a personal lens in this speciality that allows clients to feel seen and understood during some of the most transformative experiences in life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical intake session will include gathering background information, building connection and gauging comfort level, and aligning with you regarding your needs, wants, and goals from therapy. My number one goal is to have you leave feeling seen, heard, and understood, and I invite dialogue and interactive feedback into our sessions. I utilize a variety of clinical techniques and skills throughout sessions, however my style is laid back and does not feel stiff or clinical. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I see my role as a support person to help you to identify and walk your own path of healing.
