Psychotherapist

Hello, I'm Melanie. Life can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Sometimes, we feel guilty because we think we have everything that should make us happy, but we aren't. Other times, things do not go according to plan, such as marriage, parenting, and grief due to loss. Putting on a show or trying to manage alone can be exhausting. Depression and anxiety are real and can cause hopelessness, worry, and sometimes suicidal ideation. I believe mental health is an essential component of our well-being, and my mission is to provide a safe place where clients can better understand themselves and their next steps. I hold a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Stephen F. Austin University and a master's degree in school counseling from the University of Texas at Tyler. I continued my education at Stephen F. Austin to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC). My journey includes seven years as an elementary school counselor and working as a licensed professional counselor for a non-profit organization from March 2020 until February 2023. During this time, I also received my perinatal mental health certification. While my past experiences have been greatly purposeful, I am excited about growing my private practice to reach more people. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults, focusing on areas such as anger management, family relationships, life transitions, spirituality, stress, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, and perinatal support. My approach targets ineffective behaviors, habits, and personal beliefs using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based practice interventions. Building a strong rapport with clients is crucial to success, and I consider myself both a guide on the side and a cheerleader. Through collaboration, we set goals and make progress. Having the right tools for change increases empowerment and peace of mind. Together, we can do this! Let's get started!
