Getting to know Melissa Berman

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, where I currently live and work with my husband and two very active boys who keep me on my toes! My professional journey has taken me on the most fulfilling adventures and learning opportunities. Teaching and working with students daily has been such a rewarding career. What I loved most about teaching was getting to know my students and their families personally. Year after year, I saw challenges and circumstances that stood in the way of students and families achieving their goals. This inspired me to shift my professional focus from academics to social-emotional support. After ten years in the classroom, I returned to school and earned my master’s in psychology from Phillips Graduate University, along with my license in marriage and family therapy. Working for LAUSD as a counselor and coordinator has been extremely gratifying, as I have had the chance to work with hundreds of families across a wide spectrum of needs.
