Hi there, I'm MELISSA! Hello, my name is Melissa Bowen, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Hawaii. I take a more integrative approach to therapy because I find everyone is different and unique, needing different techniques. My focus is trauma and severe mental illness in both adults and children. My approach My approach to therapy is integrative since we all have different needs and learn differently. I assess the client in the initial meeting to see what approach would be the best fit for them and to make sure I am the right fit as well. My focus I have worked mostly with children, teens, and adults who have experienced trauma. I have supported people diagnosed with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and ASD. I have also worked with domestic violence survivors, child abuse victims, veterans, relationship issues, grief, and sexual issues. My communication style I usually start by building rapport with the client and developing a trusting, therapeutic relationship where the client feels comfortable sharing. My journey to mental healthcare I love helping others, and years ago I realized I really enjoy listening to people and helping them with whatever problems they may be having. My goals for you I discuss setting goals with the client and either set them right away or wait until they feel more comfortable. Everyone is different, and sometimes people are unsure of what goals they want to set, so we work on those together during sessions. My first session with you The initial intake usually involves me asking about your history and trying to identify what brought you to seek therapy. We spend the first session getting to know each other.
