Getting to know Melissa Buesing
I am a second-generation Hispanic/Latin descendant and identify with the Hispanic culture and customs. I originally attended school to become a physical therapist but changed my major to psychology after taking my first intro to psych course. My interest grew in the counseling field after experiencing one of my family member’s treatments for a severe mental health issue. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. I have worked in diverse settings, including private practice, inpatient, community mental health, and outpatient. I work with individuals seeking help for substance abuse, eating disorders, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and life changes. I work with adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I provide a questionnaire to all incoming clients to give me a better understanding of your needs, goals, and desired outcomes. Depending on the modality, I may assign homework, give handouts, and provide other resources to clients, such as podcasts, books, etc. I frequently check in with my clients to determine if progress is being made or if we need to make adjustments. I am always flexible and willing to accommodate my client’s needs and circumstances. My style is direct and respectful, with strategies to find the most effective way to deal with life’s challenges and improve emotional well-being.
