Getting to know Melissa Dominguez

Thanks for stopping by, I'm so glad you are here. Deciding to come to therapy is an awesome first step toward the inner healing you deserve. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New York, with a Master's in Social Work from Fordham University. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities and the mental health struggles that are unique to them. I provide a kind, non-judgmental, supportive environment for all of my clients and work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, trauma-informed lens. My goal is to use the power of real human connection to build trust and empower my clients throughout the therapeutic process.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The relationship between a client and their therapist is the most important part of treatment. My approach is to build trust while also applying evidence-based interventions tailored to each client and their specific needs. I mainly utilize the following interventions: Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Systems Therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first step in treatment is for me to conduct a comprehensive intake assessment. During this time, you and I will have the ability to talk about some of the issues you would like to work on. I will ask a lot of questions during this time in order to get to know you better and to get a deeper understanding of what your symptoms are. You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions that come to mind. Together we will set goals for your treatment. This sessions usually lasts between 45-60 minutes.
