Getting to know Melissa Filippi

As an experienced School Social Worker with an LCSW, I have a demonstrated history of working with children, preteens, adolescents, and adults in both education and private practice. I am also a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees in social work, having received my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University and my Master's in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane Addams School of Social Work. From the start of my career, I have been committed to working with children and adolescents. I am always striving to grow and improve my practice by researching, finding, and providing effective supports and using the most current best practices in the field. Using a strengths-based approach with Cognitive Behavioral Theory, a Person-Centered counseling approach, and the integration of other methods such as Solution-Focused Therapy and Positive Psychology, I work with clients to develop more positive, effective social and coping skills. Through my work, clients begin to see improvements in their relationships and their positive connectedness to the community. I specialize in working with clients aged 12 years to adulthood who struggle with self-esteem, depression, trauma, anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), parenting, and behavior management issues. I have a special interest in working with adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and clients or students who have experienced trauma. I assist clients in learning distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and how to incorporate mindfulness and other coping strategies to manage their biopsychosocial environments.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When we work together, my goal is to help you figure out how to improve all areas of your life, but of course, we will address the goals that you want to work on. I often recommend books, podcasts, worksheets or other homework between sessions. This helps keep you moving toward your goals between sessions. Reviews from clients indicate that I am caring, skilled, authentic, resourceful and patient I will work hard to make sure you are well-informed about the therapeutic process, and that you feel comfortable but also challenged.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Super helpful and articulate! Cares about patient and does a great job making it easier to come back to therapy
Melissa is so easy to talk to, and is able to covey Instructions

Love her. She’s incredible.
I have been working with Melissa for a while now and she has really empowered me to meet my full potential. She challenges me but at the rate I need when I need it. Knowing when to pull back when I am having a hard time, and using more even times to then challenge. She is thoughtful and warm and honestly I would be friends with her if she was not my therapist and went against ethics :) She is great!
I ultimately chose to stay with Melissa because within my first few time's meeting her I felt validated, understood and that she would call me out if I said something needing it. If that happened, I felt cared for, validated and understood as she would challenge my thought or redirect me if I need the push.
