Psychotherapist
TX
Hello, I am Dr. Melissa Garrett-Moultrie, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Spring, Texas, with over 20 years of experience. I hold an EdD in Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University. I work with adults, adolescents, families, and couples. I specialize in depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, relationship issues, family conflict, parenting problems, grief and loss, gender identity, sexual trauma, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It takes courage to pursue a more fulfilling and happier life. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support, encourage, and empower you on that journey. My approach My counseling style is warm, compassionate, direct, and interactive. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of my clients. I most frequently use Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In using Client-Centered Therapy, I believe in unconditional positive regard, which means I am empathetic and non-judgmental. Through CBT and DBT, I help you work on changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors to create a more fulfilling life while emphasizing the importance of accepting who you are as a person but changing your behavior at the same time. My focus My approach and style of therapy are a good fit for clients with anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and depression. I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds as well as couples experiencing relationship conflicts. When working with couples, I listen to each partner's feelings, accepting where they are in the relationship. I ask couples to agree to certain guidelines that may help them begin to feel relief and hope. The focus of couples therapy may include improving communication skills, changing family cycles and patterns, learning to be more tolerant, and focusing on differences and forgiveness.
