Getting to know Melissa Garrett-Moultrie

Hello, my name is Dr. Melissa E. Garrett-Moultrie a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania and Texas with over 20 years of experience working as a Psychotherapist and Behavioral Specialist Consultant. I have worked with clients with a wide range of mental health needs including depression, anxiety, bipolar, relationship issues, parenting problems, grief and loss, gender identity, borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorders, childhood trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, emotional and physical abuse, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. I am retired military, and I have interacted with individuals from a mixture of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. It is important to consider the client's background when entering a therapeutic relationship as their backgrounds may impact their beliefs, values, and behaviors. I am a proud alumna of Norfolk State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts. I then went on to earn my Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University. In addition, I completed my Doctorate degree in Community Care and Counseling: Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University. My counseling style is warm, direct, and interactive. My mission is to treat everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion without stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, existential, reality therapy, and rational-emotive counseling. Each treatment plan will be tailored to meet the unique and specific needs of the client. My experience as the therapist and my education level makes me a great candidate to guide on you a healing mental health journey.
